The Star Spangled Banner Flag House

Tagged by: Tagwhat Team
The Star-Spangled Banner Flag, sewn by Mary Pickersgill, flew over Fort McHenry during the War of 1812 and inspired Francis Scott Key to pen the words that would become our beloved national anthem.

The Star-Spangled Banner Flag House was home to Pickersgill, and since 1927 has been a museum dedicated to her and the flag she made here.

The museum makes the year 1812 come back to life for the delight and edification of visitors each Saturday. Some historic figures one may meet include Mary Pickersgill, Rebecca Young, who was Mary's mother, or Grace Wisher, an African American apprentice who helped with the flag.

Special programs, exhibits, and events all enhance the experience. Check out our calendar to see what's going on next!
