Longwood Mansion

Towering at six stories and encompassing over 3,000 square feet, the Longwood Mansion is perhaps the most easily recognized of Natchez's old Southern plantations.

Longwood Mansion is the largest octagonal house in the United States. This shape, coupled with the house's onion-shaped dome, makes the house unique among the other Mississippi mansions.

The house was built for Dr. Haller Nutt, who passed away before he could actually live in the home. As a result, the home is often referred to as Nutt's Folly, a reminder of Nutt's opulent purchase that ultimately served him no purpose.

Unlike most museums and facilities open for tour, Longwood's tour begins in it's gift shop. There are books available on the building of Longwood, the history of the home, and other Natchez area literature, as well as souvenirs and jewelry created by local artisans.
