Jimi Hendrix - Cafe Wha?

It could be said that Jimi Hendrix's career began at a meeting in this cafe. Chas Chandler, bassist for the band Animals, met Hendrix here in 1966. Chandler suggested Hendrix should move to England and try his luck with the music scene. Hendrix moved to England and his career did in fact start to blossom. Chandler became his manager and helped him form the Jimi Hendrix Experience with Mitch Mitchell on drums and Noel Redding on bass. This cafe was also a favorite hang out of Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Kool and the Gang, as well as a few comedians. The cafe is still around and features three house bands that people can borrow for weddings and other special occasions. "The New York Times" had this to say about the cafe, "Power house talent - you'd be hard-pressed to find a more exhilarating evening out."
